Hosting:
Basically, your website needs a place to live, somewhere where it can be available for its viewers and users 24 hours a day. The World Wide Web is a massive collection of web sites, all hosted on computers which are permanently connected to the Internet (called web servers). The web server (computer) where your web site's html files, graphics, etc. reside is known as the web host.
SchoolNet Links have to pay for the use of a web server so that your website can be available all year round and this is a cost which we have to pass on to our customers. But, when you pay for your first years set up fee, your hosting is included and is the only renewable cost thereafter.
The annual costs break down as below, but don't worry if you don't know how much space you need. We set you up with 5MB initially and if you begin to exceed this, our system will let you know and you can either delete some files or we can arrange to allocate you more space.
Hosting costs
| Amount of space required |
Annual cost after year 1 |
| 5MB webspace (suitable for almost all school websites) |
£100 |
| 10MB webspace (if you are using a lot of photographs and content) |
£150 |
| 20MB webspace (if you are using a lot of graphics and some multimedia files like videos and animations) |
£175 |
